About Mozart
In 1777, Wolfgang went on a long tour for the first time with his mother instead of his father. Drama is the essence of Mozart and his characters express a universality of emotion akin to the gods of classic mythology. Mozart fell in love with the eighteen year old Aloysia.

Ferrier. Other first performances by Walter include Pfitzner's Der arme Heinrich. He performed the works of another Viennese composer, Anton Bruckner, and his recording of that composer's ninth symphony is also a landmark performance. Walter was a distinguished conductor of music from the classical period, and his recorded performances of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven are well loved. He also directed opera, and gave productions of Mozart operas at the Metropolitan Opera which are now available on CD, together with his performances of Beethoven's Fidelio. The range of the bassoon begins at Bb0 (the first one below the bass staff) and extends upward about three and a half octaves; higher notes are possible but difficult to produce and very rarely called for. Bassoon music is written in untransposed bass clef, while tenor clef is frequently used for the higher ranges. words to heart, and rather than playing the showy virtuoso pieces by composers like Franz Liszt which were popular in the late 19th century, he chose to concentrate on Germanic classics by Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. Later, Schnabel also studied composition under Eusebius Mandyczewski who was a friend of Johannes Brahms. In 1900, Schnabel moved to Berlin where he began his career as a professional pianist. He gained some fame thanks to orchestral concerts he gave under the conductor Artur Nikisch as well as playing in chamber music and accompanying his future wife, the contralto Therese Behr, in lieder. It seems that Behr had some influence over Schnabel's repertoire, encouraging him to explore the sonatas of Schubert and the works of Brahms. Following World War I, Schnabel toured widely, visiting the

Symphony No. 40 (Mozart)
Allegro assai The first movement begins darkly with a pulse in the violas, soon joined by the first subject. This technique of “dropping” the listener immediately into the action, foregoing a formal introduction, would become a favorite technique of the Romantics. Examples of this technique used in Romantic music include the first movement of Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin, or the first movement of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3. A remarkable portion of the work occurs in the fourth movement, at the beginning of the development section, in which every tone in the chromatic scale is played. This work has elicited varying interpretations from different critics. Robert Schumann regarded it as possessing “Grecian lightness and grace,” while others have seen in it the character of opera buffa or some statement of tragedy
