Based on the 17th-century fairy tale, the show tells the story of a beautiful princess who is the victim of a sleeping spell. She can be awakened from her deep slumber only by the kiss of her true love.
"Sleeping Beauty" became famous as a classical ballet in 1890 with choreography by Marius Petipa and music by Peter Tchaikovsky. More recent audiences know "Sleeping Beauty" as the 1959 animated Walt Disney film that also features the Tchaikovsky score.

The Proms
The Proms The Proms are a season of orchestral classical music concerts held annually in the Royal Albert Hall in London. "Proms" is short for "promenade concerts", and the concerts are distinctive because cheap places are reserved for those prepared to stand throughout the performance. (This group are called the "promenaders", and are notably unruly on the Last Night in particular.) The concerts attract performers from all over the world. The first Proms concert was held in 1895 in the Queen's Hall and was arranged by Robert Newman. The idea was that people who perhaps would not normally attend a classical concert would be attracted by the cheap ticket prices for those standing, and the more informal atmosphere than usual (eating, drinking and smoking were all allowed). However, it is the
Piano concerto
for a list). These are often today performed with a piano as the solo instrument. Concertos specifically written for the piano were first composed in the Classical music era. The most important composer in the development of the form was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who, like many later composers, played the solo part of his works in many concerts. Many later composers have worked in the form, including Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann, Edvard Grieg, Johannes Brahms and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The form surivived into the twentieth century, with examples being written by Sergei Rachmaninov, Sergei Prokofiev, Béla Bartók and others, and piano concertos are still written today. Alberti bass
Alberti bass is a particular kind of accompaniment in music, often used in the classical music era. It was first used by Domenico Alberti, after whom it is named. Alberti bass is a kind of broken chord or arpeggiated accompaniment, where the notes of the chord are presented in the order lowest, highest, middle, highest. This pattern is then repeated. A well known example is found at the beginning of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Piano Sonata, K 545: Alberti bass is usually found in the left hand of pieces for keyboard instruments. However, it is sometimes found in instrumental pieces, Bela Bartok using it towards the end of his String Quartet No. 5, for example.
Sonata form
is a musical form, a way of organising a work of music. The original idea of a central organizing form has been very widely used by classical composers since the 18th century, and was originally described by an Italian theorist as "a two part form" each part was repeated. By the early 19th century, Carl Czerny, a student of Beethoven's described it in terms of themes, which is how it is generally still described today. It was also considered to be the standard form for the first movement of any important work of instrumental music, for example a symphony, concerto, sonata or other works based on them, such as string quartets. For this reason, it is sometimes called first movement form, although this is somewhat of a misnomer, as it has
