About Liszt
Liszt was at the center of what became the definitive split between this path and the more conservative and ultimately less influential romantic tradition embodied in the music of Mendelssohn, Schumann and Brahms. As pianist, composer and personality, Franz Liszt (b.1811) strides across the whole of the nineteenth century and is seminal in his influence on the twentieth. After this came many of the Hungarian Rhapsodies (such us such as No.2; No.8; and No.12), operatic paraphrases (including the Waltz from Gounod's "Faust"; Verdi's "Rigoletto", and the Overture to "Tannheuser" by Wagner), and songs (such as Das Wandern; from Schubert's song cycle, "Die shöne Müllerin" and Der Lindenbaum from his "Wintereisse").

Songwriter: Be true to the music (Rapid City Journal)
When Michael Johnson meets with budding songwriters, he tries to instill in them one critical message: Be true to the music. "Songs are a lot more than words put to music," he says. "Sometimes you have to trust the music to say what you're trying to say and sometime you have to trust the lyrics."

Washington's Classical 103.5
At just twenty-nine years of age Maxim Vengerov is recognized as one of the world's most exciting violinists. Since he started playing at the age of four-and-a-half, he has evolved from a precociously talented child into an assured virtuoso. After his first recital in his hometown of Novosibirsk, Siberia, at the age of five, then studying with Galina Tourchaninova and Professor Zakhar Bron, he went on to win the First Prize in the Junior Wieniawski Competition in Poland when he was just ten years old.

Tempo
pace of a given piece. The tempo of a piece will typically be written at the start of a piece of sheet music. In most popular forms of music the tempo is usually measured in beats per minute (BPM). Such a measurement is sometimes called a metronome mark, especially in classical music. Classical musicians also frequently use words to describe the tempo of a piece, sometimes on their own, sometimes with an additional metronome mark. Because many of the most important early composers in the renaissance period were Italian, that is the language typically used. Sometimes composers (or music publishers) will also use the tempo markings as the title of a piece of music, or of one of the movements, for example Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings. Romantic music
Romantic music Romantic music can be defined as music in which expression of feelings is given more importance than formal balance and internal order. The use of the phrase in this sense is generally limited to the context of European classical music. Although there are moments of pieces through history where this can be said to be the case, it became the dominant musical trend in classical music during the 19th century, and the period roughly from 1800 to 1900 is often called the "romantic period". Many composers after 1900, however, have continued to write music in a style typical of the romantic period. Although the word "romantic" is now usually used to mean "something related to love", "romantic music" as spoken about by musicologists and academics

Piano quartet
a piano and three other instruments, or a piece written for such a group. In classical music, those other instruments are usually a piano trio, that is a violin, viola and cello. Piano quartets for that standard lineup were written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Antonin Dvorak and Gabriel Fauré among others. In the 20th century, composers have written for more varied groups, with Anton Webern's Quartet, opus 22 (1930), for example, being for piano, violin, clarinet and tenor saxophone, and Olivier Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du temps (1940) for piano, violin, cello and clarinet.
