About Chopin
Schumann described Chopin's music as "cannon buried in flowers." The surface of Chopin's music may be of the drawing room particularly in pieces such as the Waltzes (for example, from Opus 64: No.1, Valse in c#, (La Valse Minute), and No.2, Valse in c#; Valse in e, Op.posth.), but works such as the Polonaises (including Andante spianato and Grande Polonaise Brilliante, Op.22; Polonaise in Ab (Heroic), Op.53; Polonaise-Fantaisie, Op.61) and Mazurkas (from his Opus 24, No.1 in G; No.2 in C; No.3 in Ab; No.4 in Bb) are filled with a distillation of folk music and national pride. This life changed however, at age twenty-six when Liszt introduced him to the thirty-two year old George Sand (nom de plume of Aurore Dudevant). After many foreign concerts during 1829 and 1830, he arrived in Paris in 1831 where he was to stay until his death in 1849.

Evgeny Kissin
piano studies at age two, and entered the esteemed Gnessin School of Music for Gifted Children. He first studied there with Anna Pavlovna Kantor. At the age of 10, Kissin made his orchestral debut and the year after that he gave his first recital in Moscow. Kissin's talents were manifested to the international scene in 1984, when he played Chopin's two piano concertos with the Moscow State Philharmonic. On September 30, 1990, Kissin made his Carnegie Hall recital debut . Among many other pieces, he has recorded Sergei Rachmaninov's 2nd and 3rd piano concertos and Mozart's 12th and 20th piano concertos. He is considered by many musicians as one of the top pianists in the world.

Edvard Grieg
the Danish composer Niels W. Gade, Grieg is noted as a nationalist composer, drawing inspiration from Norwegian folk music. Early works include a symphony and a piano sonata. He also wrote three sonatas for piano and violin, and his many short pieces for piano led some to call him the Chopin of the north. Grieg is probably best known for his incidental music to the play Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen, and for his Piano Concerto in A minor. Other notable works include: Holberg Suite (for string orchestra) Ten volumes of Lyric Pieces (for piano)

Alfred Cortot
His courses in musical interpretation there became almost legendary. He toured as a pianist all over the world, also appearing as guest conductor of many orchestras. He died in Lausanne. As a pianist, Cortot was particularly noted for his interpretations of Frederic Chopin and Robert Schumann, and he made editions of both those composers' music. He also played chamber music, most notably in a piano trio with Jacques Thibaud and Pablo Casals.\n
