Music fusion captivates in Imperial City
A performance that brings the music styles of north, central and south Viet Nam together for the first time is attracting capacity crowds at the Hue Festival.
Am Sac Viet (Vietnamese Timbre) is a combination of ca tru (choral chamber music) from the north, ca Hue (Hue singing) and cai luong (renovated opera) from the south.
Three troupes, one from each region, got together for their first one-hour performance inside Dien Tho palace on Sunday night.
The four-member Thai Ha group from Ha Noi, Hue-based Phu Xuan with seven artists and two artists from Bach Tuyet and Thanh Hai from HCM City each performed a 20-minute item.

Karl Joseph Simrock
and man of letters, was born at Bonn, where his father was a music publisher. He studied law at the universities of Bonn and Berlin, and in 1823 entered the Prussian civil service, from which he was expelled in 1830 for writing a poem in praise of the French July revolution. Afterwards he was admitted as lecturer at the university of Bonn, where in 1850 he was made a professor of Old German literature and in which city he died. Simrock established his reputation by his excellent modern rendering of the Nibelungenlied (1827), and of the poems of Walther von der Vogelweide (1833). Among other works translated by him into modern German were the Arme Heinrich of Hartmann von Aue (1830), the Parzival and Titurel of Wolfram von Eschenbach (1842), the
Henryk Szeryng
citizen in 1946. Szeryng subsequently focused on teaching before resuming his concert career in 1954. His debut in New York City brought him great acclaim, and he toured widely for the rest of his life. He died in Kassel. Szeryng made a number of recordings, including two of the complete sonatas and partitas for violin by Johann Sebastian Bach, and several with the pianist Artur Rubinstein. He also composed, his works including a number of violin concertos and pieces of chamber music.
Rosemary Brown (spiritualist)
produce works dictated to her by Franz Liszt, Johannes Brahms, Johann Sebastian Bach, Rachmaninov, Franz Schubert, Edvard Grieg, Claude Debussy, Chopin, Schumann and Ludwig Beethoven. Mrs Brown had no musical training when she was a child aside from a few piano lessons. Someone once claimed that maybe she had advanced musical training but then forgot it in a bad case of amnesia. This claim was said to be preposterous by the Brown's family doctor. Rosemary claims that those few piano lessons were the only musical training she has had. Mrs Brown claimed that famous composers dictated work to her. In 1969 she was put to a test. She was put in front of a piano by British Broadcasting Company and waited for Liszt to appear.
