About Bach
Bach's music also synthesizes the prevailing French and Italian styles that dominated the Baroque era. The miracle of these pieces is that the overwhelming intellectual mastery is always in the service of an even higher emotional character and spirit, explored with unending variety. It has been observed that Bach's melodies are harmonically conceived and his harmonies melodically conceived.

Tragic Gravity: Evgeni Koroliov in Bach's
Koroliov shares Gould's virtuosity and gift for making clear every detail of the most complicated contrapuntal structures, but his interpretive approach is utterly different. He often gives the impression of an almost improvisational freedom when playing the preludes. Listen to his way with the E-flat major Prelude of Book I. Koroliov's elastic rhythm and the spontaneity of his phrasing make it seem that the music is creating itself as it goes along. The fugue that follows is uniquely light on its feet and full of joy among those that I have heard.

Eunice Norton
of Sir Henry Wood, who subsequently took Norton on tour as soloist throughout the provinces. She played many recitals at that time in Wigmore Hall, and was soloist with the Manchester, Birmingham, and B.B.C Symphonies under Sirs Hamilton Harty and Adrian Boult. After winning the Chappell Gold Medal and the London Bach Prize in 1927, she performed in Vienna, The Hague, Paris, and Leipzig with the famous Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. In Berlin alone, she gave more than twenty concerts to dazzling critical reviews, including a Bach concert about which musicologist and critic Alfred Einstein wrote, "Her Bach is played as Bach would have wished to hear it." In Amsterdam, Paderewski said after hearing her Chopin, "You will play in all the great halls of the world." As if fulfilling this prediction,

Georg Philipp Telemann
- June 25, 1767) was a German Baroque music composer. Telemann was born in Magdeburg. Self-taught in music, he studied languages and science at the University of Leipzig. He was a contemporary of Johann Sebastian Bach. Nowadays Bach is generally thought of as the greater composer, though Telemann was better recognized for his musical abilities during his lifetime. He was so prolific that he was never able to count the number of his compositions. Telemann traveled widely, absorbing various musical styles and incorporating them into his own compositions. He held a series of important musical positions, culminating in that of music director of the five largest churches in Hamburg, from 1720 until his death on June 25, 1767. He was succeeded by his godson Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. Recordings - "Trauer
