About Bach
A veritable bible for musicians, the two books of The Well-Tempered Klavier (includes the Prelude and Fugue No.1 in C and Prelude and Fugue No.17 in Ab from Book 1, and the Prelude and Fugue No.13 in F# from Book 2) twice present preludes and fugues of every imaginable type in every key. The Italian style, with its emphasis on operatic singing and string playing, tends to be more rhythmically straight forward, emotionally extroverted, and prone to the use of repeating harmonic sequences. The descending thirds give us a large structural I, ii, V, I cadential progression that girds the entire piece.

A stirring Bach revelation (Boston Globe)
Bach's music stands as a sign of stability and permanence, of art's ability to transcend conditions and human generations. So it's possible to forget sometimes that it's also steeped in fragility and weakness. Resolutely centered on the Christian experience, Bach's art takes up all the uncertainties and vulnerability of the human condition. Redemption ...

Gaming's Clash of the Titans
One of the biggest riddles remains: Does being first to market matter? Microsoft will have at least a six-month jump on rivals. Bill Gates and his crew vowed never to be tardy again after the first Xbox hit shelves more than a year behind Sony's PlayStation 2 . Thanks to certified hits like Gran Turismo and Grand Theft Auto, the PS2 has since outsold Xbox by 4-1. This time around, Xbox honcho Robbie Bach argues that, because of Microsoft's lead, developers are likely to optimize their games first for the Xbox 360. "That's a very good thing, in my book," Bach said in an interview. Maybe not. Remember Sega's Dreamcast?

Fourteen
equation φ(x) = n has no solution (see Euler's totient function. Fourteen is also: The atomic number of silicon. The number of days in a fortnight. In traditional British units of weight, the number of pounds in a stone. A number 'encoded' in a lot of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach may have considered this number a sort of signature, since given A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, etc., then B + A + C + H = 14 and J + S + B + A + C + H = 41. The number of points outlines by president Woodrow Wilson for reconstructing a new Europe following World War I, see Fourteen Points. An die Jugend
die Jugend An die Jugend is a piece of classical music for solo piano by Ferruccio Busoni. The work was written in 1909 and published in the same year by Zimmermann of Leipzig. As in many other works by Busoni, music by other composers is copied and freely adapted. The piece is in five movements: Preludietto, Fughetta ed Esercizio - this movement uses impressionist harmonies reminiscent of Claude Debussy. In the "Esercizio", chordss suggesting A major in the left hand are juxtaposed with passages in the right based on the whole tone scale. Preludio, Fuga e Fuga figurata (Studie nach J. S. Bach's Wohltemperiertem Klavier) - The "Preludio" and "Fuga" are an almost unaltered transcription of the D major prelude and fugue from the first book of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier. The

Augmentation
diminution, where the notes are shortened). A melody originally consisting of four quavers (eighth-notes) for example, is augmented if it later appears with four crotchets (quarter-notes) instead. This technique is often used in contrapuntal music. It gives rise to the "canon in augmentation", in which the notes in the following voice are longer than those in the leading. The music of Johann Sebastian Bach is an excellent aid to study this application. An interval is augmented if it is widened; an augmented chord is one which contains an augmented interval. Thus an augmented fifth, for example, is a half step wider than the perfect fifth, and an augmented chord is a major chord whose fifth note has been raised a half step. The opposite is diminished, as in the diminished scale.
