About Bach
Bach's materials are often made from the most basic stuff of music-scales and arpeggios-and this perhaps partly explains the health and solidity of his music. Each of the pieces in these collections explores or emphasizes another possibility within the type. One need look no further than any of the Bach keyboard suites - the so-called French Suites (such as the French Suite No.4 in Eb, BMV.815), English Suites (for example, the English Suite No.3 in G: 1.Prélude; 2.Allemande; 3.Courante; 4.Sarabande; 5.Gavottes I and II; 6.Gigue), and the Partitas (No.1 in Bb; No.2 in C; No.3 in A; No.4 in D; No.5 in g; and the No.6 in E) to see the comfortable juxtaposition of a French Allemande with an Italian Corrente, followed by a French Saraband overlaid with flamboyant, Italian operatic ornamentation.

BACH motif
BACH motif In music, the BACH motif is the sequence of notes B flat, A, C, B natural. The possibilty of being able to spell the surname Bach in this way comes about because in German B indicates what in English is called B flat, while H indicates what in English is called B natural. This four-note motif has been used by a number of composers, most usually as a homage to Johann Sebastian Bach. The first known example, however, is in a piece by Jan Pieterzoon Sweelinck. It is possible, though not certain, that he used it in homage to one of Johann Sebastian's ancestors, many of whom were themselves musicians. J. S. Bach himself used it as a fugue subject in the final part of Die

Rosalyn Tureck
2003) was an American pianist and harpsichordist who was particularly associated with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. She was born in Chicago, Illinois. Tureck did not only play Bach's music, but had a wide ranging repertoire which included works by composers including Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, and more modern composers such as David Diamond, Luigi Dalapiccola, and William Schuman. Diamond's piano sonata #1 was written because the composer was inspired by Tureck's playing. She studied at the Juilliard School of music, where one of her teachers was Leon Theremin. She made her debut at Carnegie Hall playing a theremin electronic instrument. For a while she followed Wanda Landowska in playing Bach's keyboard music on a harpsichord, but later on turned back to playing on the piano, and most of her later

Gödel, Escher, Bach
Gödel, Escher, Bach Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid is a Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Douglas Hofstadter, first published in 1979 by Basic Books. At one level, it is a book about how the creative achievements of logician Kurt Gödel, artist M. C. Escher and composer Johann Sebastian Bach interweave. As the author states: "I realized that to me, Gödel and Escher and Bach were only shadows cast in different directions by some central solid essence. I tried to reconstruct the central object, and came up with this book." At a deeper level, however, the discussion of these three artists is not actually what the book is about. It is used as a device to illuminate the central theme of the book, which Hofstadter states is this:
