About Bach
Early Baroque opera led to our modern concept of harmony by declaring the primacy of a single melodic line supported by chords designated by a figured bass. For musicians, it is the universal folk music in which we bathe to purify our souls. For instance, in the great Preludium of the Partita for Solo Violin, the constant stream of sixteenth notes reach important arrival and departure points on E, c#, A, f#, B, and back to E.

“Music in Time,” Spoleto Festival USA’s 15-year-old series of contemporary classical music, is no doubt ambitious. But founder John Kennedy has said that while the series shakes up listeners, it’s more than 12-tone music and nonstop cacophony. It’s accessible. It’s beautiful. It’s emotional.

Stroop - May
Megan Stroop and Derek Edward May, both of Mooresville, N.C., were united in marriage Oct. 23, 2004, at Davidson College Presbyterian Church in Davidson, N.C. The double-ring ceremony was officiated by Kathy Beach-Verhey, a friend of the couple. Flame calla lilies, roses, berries and Italian hypernicus decorated the altar of the church. Classical music era
Classical music era The classical music era in Western music occurred in the second half of the 18th century. Although the term classical music is used as a blanket term meaning all kinds of music in a certain tradition, it can also mean this particular era within that tradition. The classical music era falls between the Baroque and the Romantic periods. Amongst its earliest composers were Joseph Haydn and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. The best known composer from this period is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The last classical composers are generally taken to be Ludwig van Beethoven, who after writing in a classical style in his early works, pushed its conventions and forms into new territory, and Franz Schubert, who served as a bridge between the Classical and

He conducted a wide range of music, but is best remembered today for his interpretations of Johann Sebastian Bach music. He avoided the fluctuations in tempo which was one characteristic of the prevailing Romantic manner of conducting Bach, but otherwise made no attempt to be historically authentic in his performances, using modern instruments right to the end of his career.

Renaissance music
Renaissance music Classical music written during the Renaissance period, approximately 1450 to 1600 A.D. It is characterized by the introduction of the interval of the third into European art music (in the Middle Ages, thirds had been considered dissonances: see interval), and the continued development of polyphony (Greek: many-voices). Masses, motets and other liturgical music was composed for churches; aristocrats and rich bourgeois sang, played and were entertained by secular songs for many voices or consort music for recorder or viol da gamba. Printing made music more widely available. Forms Madrigal Chanson Motet Mass (music) Composers Martin Agricola (1466-1506) Jacques Arcadelt (1505?-1568) (also known as Jacob Arcadelt) Elias N.
