'Phantom' in Seoul signals a shif in marketing strategy of musicals
Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," the blockbuster that touched off a sizzling musicals boom here, will wow Korean audiences again at Seoul Arts Center's Opera House from June 10 to Sept. 1.
As expected, the renowned show is creating another boom: tickets for June have almost been sold out and the remaining tickets are showing reservation rates of more than 60 percent.
What's unexpected, though, is the way producers and organizers promote this 9.8-billion-won project. Unlike other big-budget musicals that rely heavily on TV ads to promote their shows, "Phantom" does not have any media partner.

sketch with the two principal actors of the show. Another 10 minute sketch was performed as part of a Christmas Special in 1982. In Trollopian style, certain of the minor characters in the series were apparently drawn from identifiable real world originals. The acerbic nationalised industry chairman, Sir Wally MacFarlane, was a portrait of Sir Monty Finnistan; the Prime Ministerial special advisor on efficiency, Sir Mark Spencer, was a reference to Derek Rayner who joined the first Thatcher Government from the supermarket group Marks and Spencer; and the journalists John Pilgrim and Alex Andrews were evident references to John Pilger and Andrew Alexander. By constrast, Hacker's Prime Ministerial special advisor, Dorothy Wainwright, predated the arrival of Sarah Hogg (who bore her some resemblance) as John Major's advisor some years later. Table
Song and Dance
Me On A Sunday, a concert for theatre, starring Marti Webb. The dance numbers from act two originated on an album Lloyd Webber wrote for his brother, Julian Lloyd Webber. The title was changed and Sarah Brightman was put in the role of "Emma" for a television special. The original concept of Tell Me On A Sunday has since been resorted and it reopened in London in April of 2003 starring Denise Van Outen. It was still running as of September, 2003.
