About Andrew Lloyd Webber
In 1997, Andrew was knighted and became Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. Lloyd Webber saw his share of shows as a child, too, but he was born in London, the son of William Lloyd Webber, Director of the London College of Music, and was trained at the Royal Academy of Music, hardly the sort of place where you'd be likely to hear Oklahoma! He composed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita all with lyricist Tim Rice, as well as Variations, Tell Me on a Sunday (combined as Song and Dance), Cats (the longest running musical on Broadway and the West End), Starlight Express, Requiem (a setting of a Latin requiem mass), The Phantom of the Opera, Aspects of Love, Sunset Boulvard, and By Jeeves (the reworking of the earlier version, Jeeves, Whistle Down the Wind, and his upcoming show The Beautiful Game.

Forbidden Broadway to Take Aim at Applegate, Goulet, Jones and Turner Beginning June 24 By Andrew Gans 02 Jun 2005 Forbidden Broadway: Special Victims' Unit will include new jabs at Sweet Charity's Christina Applegate, La Cage aux Folles' Robert Goulet, Doubt's Cherry Jones, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf's Kathleen Turner and the hit new musical Spamalot when it reopens this month at the 47th Street Theatre. Forbidden Broadway, which played its final performance at the Douglas Fairbanks Theatre May 29, will reopen at its new home June 24 starring Ron Bohmer, Jason Mills, Megan Lewis, Jeanne Montano and David Caldwell at the piano.

Proceeds from a June 25 performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," at the Palm Canyon Theatre in Palm Springs will benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Riverside County, a nonprofit organization serving abused, neglected and abandoned children in the juvenile court system.

Playbill News: Brooklyn-The Musical to Tour U.S.
By Andrew Gans 16 May 2005 The new musical Brooklyn, currently playing Broadway's Plymouth Theatre, will launch a national tour next season. A spokesperson for the Broadway musical told Playbill.com that the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in Minnesota is the first theatre to announce the production as part of its season. The Ordway will present the Mark Schoenfeld-Barri McPherson musical June 20-25, 2006. Neither cast nor producers has been announced at this time. Brooklyn, featuring book, music and lyrics by Schoenfeld and McPherson, began Broadway previews Sept. 23, 2004, prior to its official opening Oct. 21.

The Phantom of the Opera (1986 musical)
Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. It was written in 1986 by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber specifically for the voice of his then wife, singer Sarah Brightman. It was produced by Cameron Mackintosh and opened at Her Majesty's Theatre in September of 1986, where it still runs today. The show was taken to Broadway, where it is still running today, and many other cities. A film version is to be released in December of 2004.
