About Nickel Creek
His jazz and acoustic pedigree is impeccable. There are moments on stage where I look over and think, 'This is why I've been in this band since I was eight'... What we're trying to do is grab a really interesting brush and then blend all the various colors--of all the genres of music we love." Indeed, if you were to check the CD collection in their van, you'll find Elliot Smith, Radiohead, Bela Fleck, Turtle Island String Quartet, Edgar Meyer, Pat Metheny, Murray Perahia and Bach to name a few.

"And based on the acts we have lined up, the series should be a success for us as well." Damewood said it was his goal to bring a series rich in musical diversity to the Garden, and he feels that has been accomplished.

First there’s the quick thud thwack of a trap kit. Then a plectrum scrapes across nickel-plated steel strings, a low piano key is plunked, and a few craggy guitar strings strike a chord that’s at once muted.

Sweetheart of the Rodeo
by American country rock band The Byrds, released on August 30, 1968 (see 1968 in music). Though The Byrds were not the first to fuse country and rock, they quickly became the most popular act to do so. With the talents of legendary country musician Gram Parsons, The Byrds released a long series of rock albums fixed with various influences, including bluegrass, folk and country music; Sweetheart of the Rodeo is now widely regarded as The Byrds best album, and one of the most successful fusions of country and rock in the history of music. Sweetheart of the Rodeo peaked at #77 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart, while the single "You Ain't Going Nowhere" peaked at #74 on the Pop Singles chart. He has won five Grammy Awards, several Grammy Acknowledgments, and countless specialized awards. Though he got his start in bluegrass, he has made an impact in fields ranging from rock'n'roll to jazz, from blues to Celtic, from mainstream country to contemporary classical. Mandolin
of violin making techniques and guitar making production. Flat and round backed mandolins Two of the most common carved top flat-backed mandolins are the F-style, which has a scroll near the neck, and points on the sides; and the A-style, which is round or pear shaped and has no points. These styles can also have either f-shaped soundholes, like the violin family, or an oval sound hole under the strings. Naturally there is much variation among makers, and styles other than these exist as well, but these are the most common. The F-hole, F-style mandolins are considered the most typical and traditional for bluegrass, while A-style with oval hole is more for Irish music. Larger versions of the mandolin are the mandola (a fifth below the mandolin, as the viola is
