Doc Watson
in North Carolina, is a guitar player, songwriter and singer of bluegrass, folk, country, and gospel music. An eye infection caused Doc Watson to lose his vision prior to his first birthday. He often performed with his son, (Eddy) Merle Watson, who was killed in a tractor accident at the age of 36 in 1985. He plays in both flatpicking and fingerpicking style, but is best known for his flatpick work. His virtuosity combined with his authenticity as a mountain musician made him a highly influential figure in the folk music revival of the early sixties. He pioneered the fast and flashy bluegrass lead guitar style which has been adopted and extended by others such as Clarence White and Tony Rice. He is also an excellent and soulful singer, who started

Bluegrass
Bluegrass Bluegrass has three principal meanings, the second two both deriving from the first listed. Bluegrass is a genus of grasses, Poa. Bluegrass music is a form of American roots music. The Bluegrass region is an area of Kentucky and Ohio states, USA. This is a disambiguation page, that is, one that just points to other pages that might otherwise have the same name. John Fahey
of the first guitarists to perform solo works for the steel-string acoustic guitar. His music defies categorization, drawing inspiration from American folk music, blues, classical music, Brazilian music and Indian music. In several of his later works, he experimented with dissonance and noise; these later works have been compared with musique concrete and industrial music. He founded the Takoma label in the 1960s, which helped launch the career of fellow fingerstyle guitarists Leo Kottke, Peter Lang, and Robbie Basho. Fahey was also noted for his writing skills, having written voluminous liner notes which (among other things) satirized the folk music scholarship of his day. He is the author of two books: Charley Patton, an analysis of the famous Delta bluesman, and How Bluegrass Music Destroyed My Life, a book of essays

Sweetheart of the Rodeo
by American country rock band The Byrds, released on August 30, 1968 (see 1968 in music). Though The Byrds were not the first to fuse country and rock, they quickly became the most popular act to do so. With the talents of legendary country musician Gram Parsons, The Byrds released a long series of rock albums fixed with various influences, including bluegrass, folk and country music; Sweetheart of the Rodeo is now widely regarded as The Byrds best album, and one of the most successful fusions of country and rock in the history of music. Sweetheart of the Rodeo peaked at #77 on Billboard's Pop Albums chart, while the single "You Ain't Going Nowhere" peaked at #74 on the Pop Singles chart.
